2024 OOM Tour Championship Review

Posted by: on 29 April 2024

The 2024 Order of Merit season concluded on Sunday with the Tour Championship Event played at Clearwater. The players were met with a stunning day with little to no wind and plenty of sunshine following the fresh start.

With several categories still up for grabs the results of the days were to play an important part off the final standings, mainly in the Men's, Masters Men's, and u16 boys divisions which had several potential winners.

In the Men's it was a tight contest as expected between Cooper Moore and Dominic Brettkelly who both were hovering at the par or one under throughout their rounds with the knowledge that the player that managed the better round would take out the men's title. However, it was the former player Moore that managed to hold his nerve to finish at 2 under 70 to better Brettkelly's even-round score of 72 to take out the division.

In the Masters's Men it appeared going into the day to be a two-horse race between James Howard and Aaron Forsyth sitting in 1st and 2nd respectively, with Leon Yee holding a faint hope back in third. For Yee to leapfrog his opponents he was relying on both Howard and Forsyth not finishing in the top 2, himself recording the day's best score and fellow master's player Kieran Sharvin finishing in 2nd. Remarkably that scenario played out exactly with Yee shooting a 2 over 74 ahead of Sharvin's 77, with Forsyth and Howard shooting 80 and 82 respectively, to claim the Master's title.

In the u16's, three players were in contention with Etienne Collier, Jonathan Fry, and Uny Shao all hoping to have a good day and push for the title. It was the latter play Shao that recorded the best score of the day with his 2 under 70, however with Collier's even round 72 giving him the second-best division score on the day he was able to maintain 1st place and take out the u16 title.

In the other divisions, Alisia Ren took out the Women's title ahead of Mikana Suto, the latter recording the best women's score of the day with her round of 73. In the u19's Cooper Moore took out the OOM title but the development fund top prize (for those players that had played the minimum number of counting events) went to Mitchell Redmayne. The u13 division was taken out by Alex Kimber who was unable to play on the day due to injury, he was followed by Timote Tu'ilotolava in second with Harrison Lund sneaking into third with his impressive round of 81. The u16 girls division was taken out by Sora Kishida, with Zaria Bourne finishing in second, the latter recording the division best score of the day with her 74, from Junie Chang who went round in 77. Finally, the Women's Masters division was taken out by Rachel Eder following her round of 80 on her home track.
