The North Canterbury interclub finals were played at Rangiora Golf Club last Sunday. The weather was fine if a little chilly and the course was presented in good condition with the greens in particular being superb.
The semi-finals in the Kaikoura Cup saw Pegasus Blue defeat Amuri 5-1 while the second semi-final between Kaiapoi and Pegasus White required a playoff after the teams were locked up at 3 a piece. Kaiapoi’s Ryan Adam prevailed on the second playoff hole to secure their place in the final.
The final was won by Pegasus Blue who prevailed 5-1 over Kaiapoi's Austin Hamilton, Joe Piggott, Ryan Adams, Pete McAllister, Dan Moriarty and Ricky Christison to secure the Kaikoura Cup for Pegasus for the second successive year. The winning team pictured from left, was Peter Brinsdon, Phil Stephens, Andrew Green, Scott Ritchie, Richard Sinclair and Matt Burns.
Kaiapoi’s second placing saw them secure a place in the 2017 Woodward Cup promotion relegation series to be played later in the year.
Amuri defeated Pegasus White in the playoff for 3rd and 4th by 5.5 -.5.
The Gardiner Trophy was won by the host club Rangiora with its Green team of Marcus Mariu, Ricky Walker, Alistair Reid, Paul Neilson, Kazuma Kobori and Craig Dickinson taking the honours in a close match with Amberley winning 3.5-2.5.
The Templeton Cup final was an all Kaiapoi affair with their Blue and Gold teams squaring off for the title. At the end of the regulation matches the teams were tied up at 3 a piece and a playoff to determine the winner was required. Dion Ratahi parred the first playoff hole to secure victory for his Kaiapoi Blue team mates Chris East, Graham Moore, Brian East, Oliver Young and Steve Cassidy.
