Pollock Cup commenced at Pegasus Golf Club on Sunday with the home side having the bye, while the other two games were very tight till the end.
Christchurch edged out Waitikiri 3.5-2.5 with Christchurch's wins coming courtesy of Nicky Webb, Melissa Newburn and a big win for Ina Lee-Hall while Catherine Bell halved her match with Kim Moggach at the top of the order. Waitikiri's other two wins came from Jenny Clarke and Chris Marple.
The second match between Russley and Clearwater was also an arm wrestle finishing 3-3 and a game of two halves. Clearwater's top three of Maddie May, Rachel Eder and Jo Kent all had very comfortable victories while Russley's lower order of Lynn Brand, Jaimee Leach and Rachel Cox pulled their side through to share the points in a competitive first round.
Next Sunday Pollock Cup moves to Russley where Waitikiri meet Pegasus, Christchurch lock horns with Clearwater and Russley have the bye.
