The first round of Pollock Cup got underway in fine weather and good course conditions at Waitikiri yesterday.
It was pleasing to see new players, especially juniors, in the new six-person team format.
Weedons were in the competition for the first time and without two key players suffered a 6-0 loss to defending Champions Christchurch with wins to Catherine Bell, Melissa Newburn, Margaret-Mary Coughlan, Mel Brew, Maria Lee and June Edwards.
Waimairi Beach, back in Pollock Cup after an absence of four years, also went down to Harewood 4-2 with some close matches.Lynda Brown, Anne Dick, Liz Warren and Lynn Brand won their matches for Harewood while Angela Gerken and Lyn Robertson with a convincing 9/8 win won for Waimairi Beach.
Russley's team, which included five juniors, tied up their matches 3-3 with Pegasus. Russley's Amy Weng, Estelle Lin and Mihee Woo registered wins while Danielle Price, Jessica Crosbie and Karen De Latour squared the ledger for Pegasus.
