The Tour Championship event was held on Sunday in ideal conditions at Clearwater Golf Club. This was a special day as it marked the return of the event for the first time in 3 years following the recently Covid affected seasons.
As always is the case with this event, it was a rare occasion when we can get together so many valued people from the various roles within the Canterbury Golf Community from volunteers, sponsors, Friends of Canterbury Golf members, senior players, and young players all rubbing shoulders together.
The format for the day enabled this mix of people to play with partners in an AM-AM best-ball event with prizes awarded for the best pairing scores as well as the best gross scores in each category represented. Sir Bob Charles was also in the field giving some of our younger players some lasting memories as they played alongside him throughout the afternoon.
The occasion also marked the final event of the 2021/2022 CGI Tour – Order of Merit with players vying for final counting points with the top 8 players from each division invited to play. Events in the series have been taking place over the last season with junior events beginning back in June and the senior events back in October. Throughout the months the players have competed in various events ranging from Junior Opens, Club Opens, South Island Regional Stroke Plays right through to Sunday's final event.
