Canterbury Golf women's recent events have been dogged with inclement weather and Monday 30 November was no exception when the cold southerly wind and rain struck the Women's annual CRYSTALP Jewellery Sponsored Ringers Tournament at the Kaiapoi golf course.
This was reflected in the scores but the winners, Weedons Golf Club with the pairing of Vicki Ward and Gail Parkinson returned a creditable total score of 69 stableford points, in the conditions. Close behind on 68 points were Waitikiri's Lynley Watts and Marianne McCormick and in third place with 67 points, was Charteris Bay represented by Debby Redmond and Denise Whitbread on a countback from Clearwater's Julie Battersby and Wendy Timbs.
Denise also played the shot of the day with a perfect hole in one on the par 3 13th hole - she didn't see the hole-out and was searching unsuccessfully around the green until another player found the ball in the hole.
The 9 hole single stableford competition was won by Margaret McPherson of Ellesmere with 17 points on a countback from Greendale's Joan Pascoe.
