Posted by: on 27 September 2021

A cool Spring day greeted players for the double round of Woodward Cup at Waitikiri Golf Club yesterday.

Round 6

The match between Templeton and Christchurch saw a 5.5-2.5 win to Templeton. Templeton juggled their team order around which saw their wins come in the middle and bottom of the order. Mike Toeke playing No. 5 won along with Ryan Bellamy, Dan Laughton, Tom Wilson, and Jordon Latter. Nick Franzmann halved with John Rademakers while Richard Reed and Mika MacDonald won at the top-of-the-order for Christchurch.

Hosts Waitikiri were unable to hold off an impressive Pegasus and went down 5.5-2.5. Jarrod Satherley returned for Waitikiri at No.1 and secured a nice half against Kazuma Kobori, but it was leaning pickings after that with Simon Marshall and Harley Crosland getting the only other wins for Waitikiri. Zach May, Shaun Allan, Phil Stephens, James Cadenhead, and Peter Brinsdon all won for Pegasus.

Harewood and Bottle Lake fought out a 4-4 draw. Matt McLean beat Andrew Green on the 18th at the top-of-the-order with Scott Manyweathers, Dan Lundt, and Sam Watkinson getting the other wins for Harewood. For Bottle Lake Aaron Neill had an impressive 7/6 win, along with wins to Kieran Sharvin, Jed Robertson and Daniel Asplin.

Round 7

In the afternoon most interest centred on the match between title contenders Russley and Templeton. Four matches went to the 18th but it was Templeton that prevailed 5-3. Russley won the matches at the top-of-the-order with Reid Hilton beating Mike Toeke 2/1 and Ben Baker beating Dan Laughton 1up. However Regan Kilpatrick had the only other win for Russley. For Templeton the bottom four won with Joshn Simpson, Sam McGill, Tom Wilson, and Jordon Latter showing the team depth. Ryan Bellamy also won beating Dominic Brettkelly 1up.

Clearwater made it two wins for the day beating Harewood 5.5-2.5. Will Bastings, Ryan Adams, Leon Yee, Michael Bailey, and Harris Kim won for Clearwater while Seb May halved with Kerry Branson. Matt McLean and Scott Manyweathers won for Harewood.

The other three matches were rather lopsided. Christchurch beat Weedons 6-2, Hosts Waitikiri beat neighbours Bottle Lake 7-1 and Pegasus had a clean sweep against Avondale 8-0.

After seven rounds Pegasus and Templeton are clear the top of the table with Russley and Clearwater next. Harewood and Christchurch could still grab a semi-final spot. The next rounds are at Pegasus in two weeks time with the morning round featuring Russley v Pegasus and Clearwater v Christchurch.
