The DVS Pegasus Open 72 Hole Strokeplay tournament will be staged at the North Canterbury golf club from Thursday October 13th to Sunday October 16th.

The DVS Pegasus Open is the only South Island event on the Charles Tour and is preceded the week beforehand by a PGA of New Zealand 'Pro-Am swing' through Nelson, Blenheim and Kaikoura

'The return of the event to the Canterbury golfing calendar following two years of Covid related cancellations and postponements is a huge boost to golf in the region' said the event promoter Mike Godinet of Golf Management + Marketing ‘ we are very appreciative that our major sponsor DVS, the hosts Pegasus Golf & Sports Club and our supporting partners NZME and the nzherald.co.nz and Lamb & Hayward are 100% behind the return of top class golf to Canterbury'.

Tony Sandes, Managing Director of DVS said ‘DVS are so pleased to once again sponsor this Charles Tour event. We consider it a privilege to be involved with such a prestigious and professionally managed major New Zealand golf event which carries the name of New Zealand’s greatest ever golfer Sir Bob Charles.. We are excited to join with Golf New Zealand and our partners NZME, nzherald.co.nz, Lamb & Hayward and our hosts the Pegasus Golf & Sports Club in providing an opportunity for elite amateur and professional golfers to do battle on one of the best golf courses in New Zealand. We will be treated to some absolutely fantastic golf and once again we were reminded that we don’t need to turn to our TV screens to see the best play the best. It’s also personally pleasing to see that E Tu Tangata will feature and benefit from the Pro-Am Day, it’s a charity that does so much good in our community’

‘ NZME is extremely proud to be a major supporter of the DVS Pegasus Open, it’s a fantastic event and it’s great to have a premium tournament in Sir Bob’s home town, it’s a tournament that really resonates with our listeners, readers and viewers across NewstalkZB and the nzherald.co.nz  - Ben Harris General Manager Christchurch NZME.

Stephen Parkyn CEO of Lamb & Hayward commented that “From our perspective it is important to continue the support for a Charles Tour event in Canterbury. Contributing towards the development of amateur players fits well with our philosophy to support the growth of the game. I look forward to watching the Lamb & Hayward Trophy for best amateur being contested again, within a very competitive field.  I am sure the best amateur trophy brings another level of interest to the DVS Pegasus Open.” Lamb & Hayward are the sponsor of the Lamb & Hayward Cup for the ‘leading amateur’

'Dave Mangan General Manager Golf New Zealand added. “After missing out on staging this event in 2021 due to Covid-19 the Golf New Zealand team and all the players are looking forward to getting back to the Pegasus Golf Club this year.”   It’s great that despite the hiatus DVS have stayed onboard and are supporting the event again this year.  These events represent such a great playing opportunity and without their financial support these opportunities wouldn’t exist.” “The facilities at the Pegasus Golf Club and conditioning of the course are excellent and every time we have played a Jennian Homes Charles Tour event there the best players have come to the fore, which we expect to see again this year.”

Pegasus Golf & Sports Club General Manager James Devlin welcomed the event to North Canterbury ‘ The golf club is very pleased that the DVS Pegasus Open will bring focus on the golf course and continue its reputation as one of New Zealand’s best golf venues. Our Golf Course Superintendent Chris Posa and his team will produce a top class test for all the competitors over the tournament week’. ‘The owner, staff and club members are all proud to welcome the competitors and supporters to North Canterbury’.
