Canterbury Men Finish Second at Quadrangular

Canterbury Country versus Aorangi Match

As part of the build up for both the Men's Senior and Masters teams, Canterbury Country (including North and Central Canterbury) played a representative fixture against Aorangi.  The event was played in perfect conditions at the Hororata Golf Club with eight seniors and six masters representing each district.  Aorangi held a narrow lead after the reverse singles in the senior men 5-3, the afternoon match resulted in a draw earning Aorangi the win 9-7.  Alister Sime and Phil Stephens achieved the perfect record with two wins.  In the Masters Aorangi were too strong winning 7.5-4.5, Paul Bailey and Jonathan Stieller...

Matthews Wins Stableford Competition at NZ Eagles

The New Zealand Eagles Tournament was played at the Aviation Golf Club forty players from each district represented.  Deanna Matthews (Weedons), Hayato Miy (Russley) and Tiaki Ogilvie (Russley) selected to represent Canterbury as the top qualifers from the regional event held in July. Conditions were very challenging with a considerable amount of rainfall in the leading weeks which made the course very wet underfoot with some very soft and muddy areas. Deanna Matthews aged 10, who plays off a 16.8 handicap won the best stableford prize over the 54 holes. The Canterbury team finished 3rd in the team stableford just behind Auckland and Wellington. Aorangi Retain Millennium Trophy

The Annual Millennium Trophy match between Aorangi and Canterbury Women was contested at Ashburton on Monday in fine warm conditions with Aorangi retaining the Millennium Trophy with a total stableford score of 648, averaging 34.2 points per player over Canterbury 613 and an average of 30.65 per player. The Aorangi and Canterbury teams are pictured below. Miya and Hung Win at Canterbury Matchplay

Hiroki Miya and Juliana Hung won the men's and women's championships at the 2016 Golf Warehouse Canterbury Matchplay completed at Coringa Golf Club this afternnoon. 16 year old Miya won the title for the first time, while Hung followed up her win in 2014. Miya had a good tussle with Tom Wilson and went through the turn 1up. Apart from missing a couple of putts, Miya played the steadier golf throughout. Canterbury Girls Finish Third at Girls Interprovincials

The Flexi Lease Canterbury U19 Team have finished strongly to take out third place the Girls Interprovincial played at the Rotorua Golf Club.  The team of Hillary O'Connor, Juliana Hung, Jasmine Rou, Jessica Crosbie, Lina Park and Amy Weng had a great week of golf competing against eight other provinces from the North Island.  The team narrowly missed out on playing off for the title after having a strong showing throughout the week.  The format for the competition is that players 1-3 play off the stick with the players 4-6 on playing on handicap. Interclub Finals at Christchurch Golf Club

This afternoon interclub finals have been played at Christchurch Golf Club in fine conditions with a cool easterly breeze. Results as they come to hand: Simon Cup Final - Russley v Templeton Russley have beaten Templeton 7-1. Matthew Ryall was the only player to get a point for Templeton, while David Kelly, Tiaki Ogilivie, Denis Kelliher, Hayato Miya, Nick Roberts, Gary Gillard, and Jack Ryder all had good wins for Russley.   Pollock Cup Final - Russley v Christchurch Russley have won 3-1. Central Canterbury versus Buller Westland Match

Central Canterbury played against Buller Westland at the Hororata Golf Club playing reverse singles and singles matches.  The match involved senior, masters, intermediate and a womens team.  The new format for 2016 was successful with the introduction of a women team and an intermediate team.  The representative fixture has been modified from the previous quadrangular which had also included Canterbury North and Metro and now be a home and away match for Central Canterbury against Buller Westland. 2016 Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner

The Canterbury Golf Annual Awards Dinner was held last Friday evening at Russley Golf Club, and the 175 people who attended were treated to a fine evening of awards, fun, and stories from guest speaker Greg Turner. The evening began with Kazuma Kobori (Rangiora) picking up the Eagles Promising Junior of the Year award. He was followed by Amelia Garvey (Kaiapoi) winning the Riccarton Park Golf Complex Girl's Junior Golfer of the Year, and Tom Parker (Russley) winning the Riccarton Park Golf Complex Boy's Junior Golfer of the Year. Nelson Reign in North Canterbury Representative Fixture

The 2016 North Canterbury vs Nelson Men’s Representative fixture was held at Nelson Golf Club on the weekend with the weather having a big say in proceedings. Saturday morning foursomes were played in heavy rain and the Saturday afternoon singles were abandoned as a result of waterlogged greens and surrounds.
